Barrymore got a playful makeover from the celebrity hairdresser!
The 48-year-old TV host transformed her wavy locks into a big and bouncy style with the help of celebrity stylist Chris Appleton on Monday. The former Charlie’s Angels star welcomed Appleton, 40, and Riverdale star Camila Mendes for a beauty segment on The Drew Barrymore Show. The host introduced her guests and then revealed that she had “some fun questions” hidden in “amazing old velcro rollers.”
As the makeover was about to begin, Barrymore started removing her hair extensions on air and wondered what Appleton had in mind for the ladies. “I think I’ll do both of you,” the stylist from the U.K. said about their makeovers. “I can’t wait to see what you have in there,” Appleton said to Barrymore as he moved to work on Mendes, 29. “There’s a lot,” the host joked as she took off her hair extensions.
Appleton started to give the Upgraded star a simple “day-to-night” makeover, and she picked up a bright yellow roller and pulled out a piece of paper from inside. Appleton praised Mendes’ face and cheekbones, and said the look he picked for her would highlight her beauty. She said she liked the “fun” of having some strands of hair falling over her face before she read her question to the studio audience.
“Do you prefer your date to arrive 15 minutes early? Or 15 minutes late?” was the first question Mendes read.
“I’d rather have him be 15 minutes late, because I’m usually running late too, so I won’t feel bad when he gets there,” Mendes answered after a short pause from all of them. Barrymore agreed, saying that the date could be “annoyed” if they came 15 minutes early, and still had to wait for another 15 minutes.
Appleton interrupted with his “simple and cute” makeover, putting a black bow on Mendes’s half up, half down hairstyle before moving to the Never Been Kissed actress.
He called Barrymore “Mrs. Hairstyle” who is “always on the inspiration board” when it comes to his ideas while displaying a huge hairpiece that he intended to use on her hair. As the ladies talked about their 5-minute makeup routine, Appleton styled Barrymore’s hair.
Mixing a bouffant hairpiece smoothly into her auburn hair, Appleton split Barrymore’s real hair in the middle in the front, adding a bow to the 50 First Dates star.
“Big hair is in and you’re the one who can rock it,” the stylist said to her.
“I’m a fan of big hair, and that’s the truth,” Barrymore said, loosely referencing Sir Mix-a-Lot’s “Baby Got Back.” Appleton mentioned that he did a similar style for Jennifer Lopez in Paris that everyone “really liked.”
“And if J. Lo approves… I adore this!” Barrymore said.
