Sydney Sweeney had a heartwarming surprise for her family members while filming her upcoming horror film, Immaculate.
During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday, February 27, Sweeney revealed, “I flew my grandmas out.” She explained that her grandmothers had never been to Europe before, and it was her Grandy’s dream to visit Italy.
So, Sweeney decided to fulfill that dream by flying them out and letting them participate as extras in the movie. In the film, they were cast as “little old nuns” who share the same convent in Italy as Sweeney’s character, Cecilia.
Fallon then shared a photo from the set that Sweeney had sent him, showing one of her grandmothers in her nun costume while taking a cigarette break outside.
Proudly pointing at her grandmother, Sweeney laughed and described her as “iconic,” capturing the moment when she looked amazing even during a smoke break between takes.
Sweeney’s family ties to the movie didn’t stop there. She explained that her love for horror films, inherited from her dad, inspired her to produce Immaculate.
Recalling her audition for a version of the movie when she was 16, which unfortunately never materialized, she decided to take matters into her own hands a decade later.
Ten years later, unable to shake off the script’s appeal, Sweeney took the initiative to produce the film herself. She collaborated with the writer to adapt the story for a 25-year-old lead, attached producers, secured financing, and hired a director. This project marked her debut as a producer, an experience she described as “amazing.”
Immaculate is set to hit theaters on Friday, March 22, following the story of Cecilia, played by Sweeney, a religious woman who moves into a haunted Italian convent nestled in the countryside.
