Miles Teller Opens Up About His Role in the Upcoming Michael Jackson Biopic
In an interview with Variety at the Vanity Fair Oscars party on Sunday, Miles Teller shared his enthusiasm for his involvement in the Michael Jackson biopic, titled Michael.
Teller, aged 37, is set to portray John Branca, Jackson’s former manager, current co-executor of the star’s estate, and a producer of the film.
Addressing the controversies surrounding Jackson, particularly the allegations of child sex abuse, Teller acknowledged the weight of his decision to take on the role.
He emphasized the limited opportunities in the film industry and expressed his excitement to contribute to the project, believing it will make a significant impact.
Teller discussed his approach to preparing for the role, highlighting the importance of immersing himself in research and information. He mentioned meeting Branca, the individual he will be portraying, and spending time with him to better understand his character.
Additionally, Teller expressed admiration for the director Antoine Fuqua and producer Graham King, emphasizing the caliber of talent involved in the project.
The actor emphasized Jackson’s cultural significance, stating, “Regardless of what you know or what your opinion may be, Michael is one of the greatest to ever do it, if not the greatest.”
He underscored Jackson’s deserving of a biographical film, expressing his eagerness to contribute to the project.
Teller also expressed his excitement about being part of the ensemble cast, emphasizing the collaborative nature of filmmaking, particularly coming from a theater background.
The Lionsgate production features a diverse cast, including Jaafar Jackson, the late singer’s nephew, portraying Michael Jackson, alongside other actors portraying various members of the Jackson family.
