Jennifer Lopez embarks on a mission to safeguard humanity in her upcoming sci-fi flick, Atlas.
Netflix unveiled the first trailer for the movie on Wednesday, introducing Lopez as Atlas Shepherd, a “brilliant yet skeptical data analyst who harbors deep suspicions toward artificial intelligence,” according to a synopsis.
She “joins a quest to apprehend a rogue robot with whom she shares an enigmatic past. However, when things take an unexpected turn, her sole chance of preserving humanity’s future from AI threats lies in putting her trust in it.”
Directed by Brad Peyton, known for his work on Dwayne Johnson films like San Andreas and Rampage, Atlas promises gripping action and suspense.
Joining Lopez, 54, in the cast are Simu Liu, Sterling K. Brown, Gregory James Cohan, Abraham Popoola, Lana Parrilla, and Mark Strong. Lopez’s previous action-packed venture with Netflix, The Mother, soared to success last year, claiming the No. 8 spot on the platform’s list of most-watched English-language movies, surpassing titles like Glass Onion and Chris Hemsworth’s Extraction.
In addition to her film projects, Lopez has recently dropped a new album and released companion movie projects on Prime Video, including This Is Me…Now: A Love Story and the documentary The Greatest Love Story Never Told.
Mark your calendars: Atlas arrives on Netflix on May 24.
