Johnny and Amy from Love Is Blind are the perfect pair of season 6 — but they had one big obstacle to overcome before getting married: their disagreement on contraception.

“[It] was a really big thing that we talked about multiple times, we wanted to make sure we’re on the same page. Me really not knowing a lot about birth control, contraceptives, things of that nature made it difficult to really have a good conversation right away because I was uninformed.”

Johnny and Amy, both 34, were the first pair to get engaged in the pods in season 6, which debuted earlier this month. The duo stayed strong during their romantic trip in Mexico, but when they came back to Charlotte, North Carolina, they found out they had different views on contraception and family planning. While Amy, who had never used birth control, was ready to have a baby soon, Johnny wanted to wait until they had more money — resulting in a heated discussion about their future.

“[We could get pregnant] literally at any time. Nine months from now we have a little Amy Jr. or John Jr. coming though, that’s something I’m terrified of, I don’t want that, period.”

Amy, on the other hand, claimed that even though it would be hard to have a baby now, they could still “manage a child” without any problem. She also mentioned that even though she knew that contraception would be “perfect” for her anemia, she liked how “normal” her system was without it.

When Amy brought up the option of a vasectomy instead, Johnny said it could be an option. “I know it’s not only the girl’s responsibility,” he said. “I don’t want it to look like I’m telling you, ‘Do this,’ or that this is the only way to do things because it’s not.”

In the end, the couple agreed it was something they had to “study and find a solution” for before the wedding, as they had already agreed to stop being intimate until they agreed on this.

The couple agreed on one thing: they would be “wonderful” parents, but they were scared of it happening “too early.” Johnny told Us that the short “time span” between meeting in the pods and getting married only increased the stress.

“Everything was on my mind I think every single day,” he said. “I think that was probably the biggest two difficulties that I personally faced.”

The season finale on Wednesday, March 6 will reveal if the couple made it to the altar. At the very least, Johnny said the “candid and sincere” conversation made him and Amy closer.
