Former New York Congressman George Santos Announces Bid for Congressional Seat in 2024 Campaign

George Santos, the former Congressman who was expelled from office, has declared his intention to run for Congress again in 2024. The 35-year-old made the announcement via X (formerly known as Twitter) while President Joe Biden delivered his State of the Union Address.

Sitting among his former colleagues, Santos criticized Representative Nick LaLota, accusing him of being a ‘Republican in Name Only’ and pledging to challenge him for the New York 1st Congressional District seat.

Santos’ expulsion from Congress in December 2023 followed a vote of 311-114, amid allegations of fraud and false statements related to financial disclosures during his tenure.

Despite facing multiple criminal charges, including wire fraud, money laundering, and making false statements, Santos maintains his innocence and is currently in discussions regarding a potential plea deal. His trial is scheduled for August 2024.

Nevertheless, Santos remains undeterred, vowing to return to the political arena and highlighting the importance of the upcoming election in securing the future of the country. Following his expulsion, Democrat Tom Suozzi won the seat, flipping it from Republican control.
